We are changing the search and loan system

The University Library is switching to a new search and loan system on 1 November. This will impact some of our services. The library will be open as normal. The search tool on our website will be available for searching and for accessing electronic resources.

Timeline

1–31 October

It will not be possible to request interlibrary loans. The order form on our website and Libris Interlibrary Loans will be temporarily disabled.

7 October–1 November

During this period of time:

  • Limitations to orders from older/old catalogues at Carolina Rediviva.
  • No purchases of new resources. This applies to both printed and electronic resources. Purchase suggestion forms on the library’s website will be disabled.

28–31 October

During this period of time:

  • ”My loans” will not be available.
  • Registration as a new patron will not be possible.
  • The library’s self-service machines will be temporarily turned off. Loans will be handled manually at the information counter. At unstaffed libraries, Ask the Library,  the library’s digital help service, can assist during regular library hours.
  • Loans can be returned at the information counter at staffed libraries, or to return boxes at unstaffed libraries. Returned books will not be registered as returned until 1 November.
  • There will be a temporary stop in reservations and waiting lists for loans.
  • Requests from stacks will be temporarily on hold.

1 November

The new search and loan system will go live on 1 November. There will be limitations at times during this day or for the entire day:

  • Lending will not be possible. Otherwise, the same as above applies.
  • Access to the search service on the website, including electronic material, can be impacted.

What is a library system?

The library system is actually several systems. Together they make it possible for library users to:

  • Search, find and read electronic books and articles.
  • Search for physical books and journals.
  • Register as a patron.
  • Borrow and return library books.
  • Request a book on loan.
  • Request books from closed stacks.
  • View your loans in the 'My loans' feature.

Why do we change search and loan systems?

The search and loan system used today is old and needs to be replaced. A new system provides, among other things, greater opportunities to search and find all types of materials in our collections: old, new, printed and electronic.

Uppsala University Library strives to provide good service throughout the switch to the new system and would like to thank all users in advance for their consideration.

Katarina Hjortsäter, katarina.hjortsater@ub.uu.se, is coordinating the introduction of the new search and book borrowing system.

The change does not apply to the search and loan system at Almedalsbiblioteket (Campus Gotland).
