Use Ångström Visualisation Lab

The lab is available to those wanting to work creatively with digital visualisation, who would like to try VR technology and want to learn new programs through open workshops.

  • The campus card provides round the clock access to the room.
  • Use TimeEdit to book the lab by searching for Ångström Visualisation Lab. Students can book individual zones. Teaching staff and other employees can book the entire room.

Get started:

  • You can use the available computers in the lab. Students can use your CAS-id and gain access to special programs used for visualisation..
  • You can borrow hand controllers for VR glasses from the library’s information desk. If the desk has closed after you have finished, you can return the controller by using the black letter box to the left of the lab door.


Troubleshooting

The library is responsible for lab equipment together with IT and computer service at Ångström (support - support[at]angstrom.uu.se).
 

May I eat and drink in the lab?

  • Yes, but you must clean up after yourself. It is your responsibility to protect the equipment from spillage.
  • Recycling bins are available opposite the lab.

I can't start up the computer

  • Are all the cables inserted properly? If yes - restart the computer.
  • If it still does not work: put up a sign and inform support (support[at]angstrom.uu.se). Provide clear information about what is not working.
     

VR

The computer is on, but the screen is black

  • There is a button to the lower right-hand side of the screen for the VR computer. Press it to restart.

How do I log in?

  • Direct login is used so you only need to restart the computer.


The hand controllers lose contact with the VR program

  • Stand and face the screen at all times. Contact might drop if you turn away from the sensors, thus “block” the signal. 
  • If this still doesn’t work, ask the library staff to change the batteries.
  • If it still does not work: put up a sign and email support support(support[at]angstrom.uu.se). Provide clear information about what is not working.

How do I log in?

  • Log in using your CAS-ID. This applies for both students and staff. 

How do I connect my own computer to the wall-mounted screens?

  • The screens are connected to HDMI cables. Use one of them and plug it into the computer. 
  • Not working? Are all the cables inserted properly? If yes - restart the screen.
  • If it still does not work: put up a sign and email support (support[at]angstrom.uu.se). Provide clear information about what is not working.
