27 May 2008 - 8 May 2009
This exhibition showed how important collecting - especially that of book collectors - is for the Library. Collections are created, scattered and new ones founded. There are numerous collectors behind many of the University Library's older collections. The exhibition put on view books, photographs, drawings and manuscripts from the collections of collectors from the 17th century up to the present day, collections which in one way or another have become part of the Uppsala University Library.
At the same time books from a large private book-binding collection were exhibited. Jarl and Anna Hellichius have for decades been collecting and ordering specially bound books, all of which live up to certain criteria for the text, illustrations, paper, design and the book's binding. The artistry of hand bound books, book-binding experts and specialists and even a sculptor were represented in the exhibition.
