Newspapers and journals

Journals and magazines

Swedish journals

In accordance with Swedish law, all Swedish printers must deliver one copy of virtually everything they print to seven Swedish deposit libraries, which includes Uppsala University Library. The Library saves most of the scholarly journals, cultural magazines and printed matter from the trade unions. As far as other periodicals are concerned, e.g. comics, weekly and lifestyle magazines, the Library saves only a representative selection.

Foreign journals

Scholarly journals have always been a very important part of the University Library's collections. The Library subscribes to a large number of journals - both printed and electronic.

The Library is acquiring more and more backfiles, i.e. older runs of journals.

Both Swedish and foreign journals may be read or copied in the subject libraries that make up Uppsala University Library.

Newspapers

Uppsala University Library holds original copies of Swedish newspapers up to 1850. These may be read in the Special Reading Room in Carolina Rediviva.

Swedish newspapers from 1851 onwards are accessible only on microfilm.

There is a selection of foreign newspapers; on paper, on microfilm or online.
