At the Uppsala University Library there are publications that for one reason or another are treated as special collections. This is where you can, for example, find works published by and about Carl Linnaeus as well as the Library's collection of publications from the time of the Russian Revolution.
The special collections have been created in certain subject areas to preserve the link with their provenance (i.e. prior ownership) and in other cases because the material is in someway special. The cut-off year that the Library uses to define early imprints is 1850. This time limit however does not apply to the special collections.
Each special collection is described briefly with details of its history and content and references to relevant catalogues and reference books. Use the menu on the left to read more about our special collections.
All the items in the special collections are available and can be requested for study in the Special Reading Room at Carolina Rediviva. Contact the Section for Early Imprints and Special Collections if you have questions or wish to order items prior to your visit.
