Searching inside e-books
You can often search through an entire book and in many books you can make your own notes, highlight excerpts and put in bookmarks if you create your own user account in an e-book database.
Reading e-books
You usually need the programme Adobe Reader to be able to read an e-book. You read the e-book online on your computer screen. In some cases it is possible to download the text and read it offline. The possibility to make printouts is limited and it is the e-book provider that decides what is permissible and what is not. This can vary.
Advantages of e-books and their future
- Advantages. The advantages of e-books for encyclopaedias and dictionaries are obvious - finding words and terms is quick and easy. But it is also easy for example to find a concept, or a quotation, not only in a thick e-book but also in several e-books at the same time (books belonging to a publisher or distributor).
- Future. User-friendliness will improve and we will learn the best ways of using electronic texts. Already there are wireless reading devices available on the market at a reasonable price.
