After war, does truth telling lead to more peaceful attitudes between former enemies? In this book, Karen Brounéus examines the Solomon Islands Truth and Reconciliation Commission process and its effect on people’s attitudes towards peace.
The book reveals critical issues for peacebuilding, with important implications for other post-conflict truth telling process around the world. For example, as ex-combatants did not feel safe telling the truth in the TRC they decided beforehand what to say in the hearings. This systematic telling of untruths severely undermined relationships, contributing to the challenges of peacebuilding in the country.
